What We Believe In

Chantal and I have never thought of ourselves as business people. First and foremost, we are husband and wife, and parents to two awesome grown-up kids. Professionally, I have always regarded myself as a Brewmaster and a builder. Chantal has always worked in healthcare. But together we have started a business, so here we are, business people. We choose to operate our business with a “Values First” approach and we have had the great fortune of surrounding ourselves with like-minded folks. We are all one family now.

We believe fine beer is one of life’s simple pleasures

Beer has been at the centre of gatherings, large and small, since the outset of civilization. There are many who believe the growing of grain and making of beer is what transported humans from being nomadic hunters and gatherers to living in communities. Beer continues to bind us together, it goes where we go. Whether it is enjoyed in your backyard, or accompanied by a fine meal, it is often the secret ingredient to great ideas and good times.

Pilsner Urquell, a “pale lager”, dates back to 1842, and is brewed in Plzeň, Czech Republic.
The Hoyne Pilsner was inpired by Czech-style pilsners, and is more golden and full-flavoured than German and American counterparts.

We believe in the tradition, craft and science of brewing fine beer

We brew a classic Old World style pilsner. We brew a dark ale reminiscent of the hearty beers you would find in Northern England in the 17th and 18th centuries. We have reached back to the exquisite golden lagers of Dortmund in the 19th century. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants.

And, like many of us in the craft beer world, we too have drawn inspiration from Reinheitsgebot, the Bavarian Purity Order of 1516. Our brewing practices employ only the finest all-natural ingredients without the use of additives, preservatives or adjuncts. Beer was once thought of as nourishment, perhaps for the soul as well as the body, and that is very much how we see it.

In the pursuit of remaining true to tradition, we obtain many of our varieties of malted barley and hops from the great brewing regions of the world. We employ current quality control scientific principles to achieve impeccably clean, flavourful beer with the highest degree of integrity possible. With over 30 years of professional brewing experience, and a deep love for the craft and history of brewing, Sean Hoyne is proud to contribute to this rich brewing culture.

We believe in our community

From our business partners and suppliers, to the farmers who feed us, to the great people we employ, and to all the fine folks who not only love craft beer but dedicate themselves to worthy causes that deeply impact our lives, our commitment is to support and give back to our community however we can. We believe in generosity — and the generosity of spirit is one of our guiding principles and is central to our culture.

We believe in sustainability

Not because it looks good on (recycled) paper or because it checks a box. We believe in sustainability out of necessity. It is the only way forward. Every opportunity we get to explore a new technology or a new process that reduces our footprint, we chase it. For example, we researched, experimented and built an “Ozone Machine.” It allows us to sterilize equipment without using chemicals, amongst other things. Want to know more, or how to make one? Contact us, we’d love to share.

The brewery has 18 conditioning tanks. That's a lot for a brewery our size, but it allows us to age all our beers traditionally, with natural carbonation.

We believe in our team

We’ve been lucky to have had some of the most dedicated, most fun, most hardworking people join us in our endeavour to bring great beer and good times to our larger community. Every person at Hoyne plays a role in the ongoing growth of our company and we value each and every member, from the warehouse workers stacking pallets to the folks at the front desk fielding calls. From the brewers to the sales and delivery team and everyone in between, we couldn’t do what we do without them. With that in mind, we’ve created an environment where we support new ideas and growth, and we work hard to constantly be providing new opportunities to those who want them, investing in our team in all the ways we can.

I wanted to create a company that I'd want to work for.
