2023 Cycle of Life Tour: August 26-27

The Cycle of Life Tour, organized by Victoria Hospice, provides financial support and raises awareness for hospice care across Vancouver Island including:

Victoria Hospice Society
Campbell River Hospice Society
Comox Valley Hospice Society
Cowichan Valley Hospice Society
Nanaimo Community Hospice Society
Oceanside Hospice Society
Pacific Rim Hospice Society
Salt Spring Hospice Society

Taking the riders on a two-day epic cycling tour of the South Island with an overnight stay on Salt Spring Island, riders will cycle nearly 200km, passing through the scenic Saanich Peninsula, Cowichan Valley and Salt Spring Island, all while raising much needed funds for hospice care.

History

Graham Robertson, a local Registered Massage Therapist, founded the Cycle of Life Tour in 2011 after being inspired by a community initiative fundraiser for a colleague who passed away from cancer in 2010. The inaugural ride in 2011 took Graham, cycling alone, from Anchorage, Alaska down through the Yukon Territories and British Columbia to Victoria, raising awareness and support for Victoria Hospice.

Originally Graham chose Victoria Hospice because of the stories he’d heard from friends and colleagues. ” For such a vital role that Victoria Hospice plays in the community, I was shocked by how little the community knew about its services, and this is what drove me into action.”

The Cycle of Life Tour has continued to grow and evolve since 2011. No longer a solo long distance ride, in 2013 a group ride format was introduced which enables a significant increase in fundraising potential. To date, the Cycle of Life Tour has raised over $1.5M for hospice care on Vancouver Island.
