Our Brewery
Welcome. We’re Glad You’re Here.
Grab a pint and come explore. Hoyne Brewing Company, founded in Victoria, British Columbia in 2011, was the culmination of a lifelong dream of Brewmaster Sean Hoyne. The brewery continues Sean’s long history of crafting exceptionally high quality lagers and ales, beers that look to the great European breweries of the past for inspiration. Tradition is at the core of our ethos and because we intend to be here for a long time, our values and decisions are guided by long term sustainability.
Our Fantastic Brewery
In the summer of 2011, Sean and his wife Chantal took possession of a small warehouse tucked away in Rock Bay, an industrial area of Victoria. For those familiar with Sean Hoyne and his history of brewing delicious beers at Swan’s Brewpub and Canoe Pub for nearly 20 years, it came as no surprise that he was finally creating his own brewery. Starting with a very small, eight-hectolitre brewing system, we began filling hand signed growler bottles with our very first batches of beer in mid-December: Down Easy Pale Ale, Dark Matter, Hoyne Pilsner, and Devil’s Dream IPA. A Merry Christmas was had by all!
Since then the brewery has expanded to include a new 35 hectolitre brewhouse, a bank of 70 and 140 hectolitre fermentation and conditioning tanks, a technically sophisticated Italian built bottling line (for our six packs and bombers) and most recently, staying with the Italian theme, a state of the art canning line. We now proudly offer a line up of seven full time core brands and up to 10 seasonal and limited release offerings per year. We distribute our beer to pubs, restaurants and liquor stores throughout the province of British Columbia. Yet throughout this growth, we have maintained our original vision of quality first, respect for tradition and sustainability.
Of course we would not be able to do any of this without our amazing team. We truly value each individual and are grateful for the dedication and energy they bring. We proudly see them as our extended family.
Over these years, the Rock Bay industrial area has enjoyed something of a transformation. With the addition of coffee shops, an ice cream store, other breweries and countless entrepreneurial artisans, our little corner of town has evolved into a thriving, vibrant business community. It has even earned the nickname of ‘Victoria’s Brewing District’.
