For over 20 years, LUSH Valley has been a catalyst for food-related projects and an advocate for community food security. The organization is devoted to helping the Comox Valley community gain food-systems tools, engage in just and resilient local food systems, and receive equitable access to nourishing food.

Current programs include:

• Fruit Tree & Farm Gleaning: Utilizing teams of volunteers to help ‘Share the Harvest’ and reduce food waste
• Urban Agriculture: Enriching community and supporting individuals to grow their own food
• Healthy Foods Programs: Teaching people of all ages to cook healthy meals and appreciate local food
• Food Share: Distributing Hot Meals and Good Food Boxes to members of our community experiencing food insecurity
• Advocacy: Supporting and promoting food security initiatives
• Comox Valley Food Policy Council: Working with various stakeholders to grow our local food economy

LUSH Valley supports and works with decision makers and others in the Comox community to implement policy and practices aligned with their Vision: to ensure access to healthy and culturally appropriate food and food education for all, while striving towards reconciliation, ecological sustainability and climate change reconciliation.

 

As with all our Charities of the Month, proceeds from the sale of tasters at the Growler Bar, as well as the donations we collect, will be given to this awesome and important group of folks.
