The Gift of Good Food is the Holiday Fundraiser organized by Fernwood Neighbourhood Resource Group (Fernwood NRG) that runs from November to December annually.

Every year, money is raised to support year-long access to fresh fruits and vegetables for families facing food insecurity throughout Greater Victoria. To do this, fresh produce is bulk purchased from local farmers and distributors with the support of over 20 volunteers, 18 community centers, local First Nations, grassroots food justice and newcomer support organizations to reach their most vulnerable members.

The 2024 goal is to support 200 families and raise $150,000 towards this campaign. If that goal is reached it will break the $1,000,000 mark in donations since the beginning of the campaign, 10 years ago. 

Through your donations—along with partner organizations, staff, and volunteers combined efforts—the Gift of Good Food supports families who are in need of consistent, healthy produce for their children. Families receive a free Good Food Box every two weeks for an entire year. The Good Food Boxes are picked up by recipients at our partner locations from Sooke to Saanich along with other Good Food Box customers, providing dignified access to fresh, high quality fruits and vegetables. 

The ongoing impacts of the pandemic, inflation, rising food costs, and the housing crisis in our city, are all squeezing vulnerable families and forcing hard choices about what they can afford to put on the table. We want to ensure we can continue to support these families by providing consistent access to fresh, high quality food.
